The other night J was getting A ready for bed. While reading the memory verses, J read Romans 6:23 which says, "For wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." J had read the first part "For the wages of sin is death" and was waiting for A to repeat the phrase. Instead A gave her commentary, "I don't like that." And it is true, even though we all sin, we all make mistakes, and we all hurt others, we still would rather not be punished for our sins. Thank God that He gave us the rest of the verse, "But the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." As Paul says in another letter, "3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) That is all it takes. Just place your trust in the finished work of Christ. Believe that He lived, died for your sins, and was raised from the dead and you can have eternal life with God in heaven (and avoid the fiery alternative).
